What's 1 - 1?

1.0 - 1.0 = 0, right?

1. 0 - 0.9- 0.1  still equals 0, correct?

well, don't trust your google calculator too much.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=1+-+0.9+-+0.1&btnG=Search

I also tried it with MSN search, and appearantly, they give the same answer.

# re: What's 1 - 1?

remember from you math class in high school...
(a-b)(a+b)=0

so one of them is 0:
=>a-b=0
=>a+b=0

let a=1.0 and b=1.0

1.0+1.0=0
=>2=0??

Of course, the of the restrictions of this formula is a!=b.

Google appears to be correct:

> 1 - 0.9 - 0.1 = 0

MSN Search gives the same answer I believe old versions of calc.exe gave:

> Answer: 1.0-0.9-0.1 = -2.775558x10^-17

Not quite sure who wins on consistency... ;)
