I remember when I first started here at Vertigo, my first chat with Paul (besides the interview ), he showed me the first application I've seen done by Vertigo: the Quake 2 .NET port done by Ralph. “Wow” I thought... “I hope I get to work on such a project in the future!” A few weeks later, it was released onto the net and we got bombarded with download requests, especially since the download site was /.'ed.

Fast forward a year later, Scott Currie, PM of VC++ team, recently showed off the demo on Channel 9. Knowing that we (or actually Ralph) did the port, I watched the video interested in listening to what he had to say. He showed off the Q2 exe running in .NET, the radar as a window and finally the radar embedded in the actual game. He also talked a bunch about native code and managed code if anyone is interested in knowing the technical details related to that.

Scott also mentioned Vertigo Software about 25% into the video (when he talked about the effort needed to do the port) so some freebie marketing for Vertigo!

In related news, a few months ago I watched a web cast where the topic was about the new features with VC++ in .NET v2. The person who did the demo actually showed off the Q2 port through Live Meeting! No, it wasn't exactly the best experience, but it actually worked!

Anyways, thanks to Ralphs for doing such a great job on the port! I hope I get to work on such a project in the future too (hint, hint... ).
