Daemon Tools Spyware

I've been using Daemon Tools for years now as a Virtual CD\DVD emulation utility.  In their latest version, it looks like they have some extras to their tool, namely SaveNow and an IE search bar.  From their downloads page:
This version has an option to install client-side software applications (DAEMON Tools Searchbar and Save Now) that deliver a limited number of behaviorally targeted and contextually relevant coupons, ads and comparative shopping results directly to consumers desktops - without compromising the privacy, security or smooth functioning of peoples computers
Here's more info on the SaveNow app from PC Hell (emphasis added):
SaveNow is a add-on product distributed by Bearshare, DivX player, Imesh, and a few other downloadable programs. Its a product made by a company called WhenU. It tracks what websites a person visits and then pops up separate browser windows with targeted advertisements and special offers. It continuously is downloading updated information about new offers and collects a variety of information.
While I'm grately that the Daemon Tool's description tells me that it optionally installs SaveNow, it's such a shame that such a useful utility now relies on spyware and adware support.  Luckily I'm able to install an older version that's spyware free optional or not.

But isn't installing the SaveNow and Searchbar stuff optional? I'm pretty sure I had the option of not installing that stuff, and don't have any of those things on my machine...

Yes, the other stuff is truly optional-- you can turn it off during the install.

Having had SaveNow plagued my home computer awhile back, I am still wary enough to not even risk it now, eventhough it's optional.

I kind of expect it from software found on download.com but not developer tools such as Daemon Tools.

If in doubt, try it in a Virtual Machine first.. then see!

More importantly: is there a good optional software to replace Daemon Tools?

I installed it and still had traces of spyware on my system even though I unchecked the toolbar box. smells like a lawsuit to me. I am gonna pass this one to my attorney friend. anyone wanna jump on the class action lawsuit?
